As reported in July, Burnham has won this year’s Pushman Cup for the best kept larger village in Buckinghamshire. This is a great achievement, and a tribute to the hard work that many people put in to help keep our village looking lovely. We're very conscious and appreciative that this includes a lot of residents who litter pick and help to keep Burnham looking nice in other ways.
Comments from the judges included “strong sense of community”; “clearly well maintained war memorial with attractive flower beds”; “attractive floral displays and absence of litter”; “great range of well looked after play equipment and green space”; and “George Pitcher Memorial Ground and Nature Park are well-tended and impressive outdoor areas”.
The presentation takes place at Burnham Park Hall on the morning of Saturday 21st September, and any members of the public who wish to attend would be welcome.
The Hall will be open just before 10am, from about 1015 we will gather at the presentation spot: at the North East Corner of the land in front of the Hall. The presentation party - the competition Chairman and Vice-Chairman, a Deputy Lieutenant (to be confirmed), the Judges, and the competition administrator - are touring all the winning villages in one day by Buckinghamshire Council Bus. Given our location they are going to come to us first, leaving Aylesbury at 0930, arriving with us around 1015-1020. They won't be able to stay long, as they need to leave for the next presentation in Marlow by about 1045. The Chair of the Best Kept Village Competition, Cllr Bill Chappell, will give a brief speech, and present the trophy to our Chair Cllr Marie Hammon and Head Groundsman Tim. Marie will then give a reply on behalf of the council. There will then be photos.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for everyone attending from our end in the Huntercombe Room from 1045-1130.
