Cllr John Carey
Biography: I have lived on Eastfield Road, Lent Rise, with my family since 1988. I became involved in the local community immediately, joining the Burnham and Hitcham Scout Groups as a leader. I later became Group Scout Leader for Lent Rise and Dorney. This inspired me to become a parish councillor. I also have wider experience in school governance at both primary and secondary level; most recently, my focus has been on the wellbeing of Burnham children who have moved to schools in Bourne End and elsewhere.
I am extremely aware of the issues we face regarding the volume of traffic and speeding in our ward, which we are working with Buckinghamshire Council to address. I have a strong interest in the Council's climate emergency objectives, which we are working to achieve by 2030. I am particularly interested in planning and development across the parish. I am also a Mental Health First Aider, supporting both young people and the elderly through a local charity.
Committee Membership: Burnham Park Management Committee; Planning Committee; Recreation & Amenities Committee; Policy & Resources Committee; Staffing Committee; Vice-Chair of the Council and The Eco Working Group.
Membership of Outside Bodies: South Bucks Association of Local Councils; Trustee of Care & Share; Trustee of The Well at Lent Rise; member of St Peter's PCC and an ambassador for the Child Trust Fund.

I have lived in Burnham since 1967 with only a couple of years away for work commitments.
I attended St Bernards Convent and Brigidine Convent for my school years. I then attended Langley College to study Secretarial Skills and a couple of years later attended ‘Contance Spry’ finishing school.
Approximately 1981 I won a trophy at Burnham Tennis Association.
Since the time I was able to walk I enjoyed many years dressing up bikes and floats for Burnham Carnival.
In 1991 my life had a dramatic change when my daughter was born due to negligence. I now have 2 daughters with Learning Disabilities and enjoy my time caring for them, and caring for the older members of my family too (including an elderly neighbour)
I would love to follow in my late Parents footsteps and help the people of Burnham.
I will be seen often walking my dog and friends dogs in Burnham Park, cycling the streets of Burnham on my daughters wheelchair bike or dancing at Band Nights.
I play the accordion and pre-covid, I played at day centres and other establishments.
I have recently joined Burnham’s Good Neighbour Scheme as Co-Ordinator, helping arrange volunteers to take the people of Burnham to their medical appointments.
