Padel Courts in Burnham ‘a very exciting project’

Burnham Parish Council has welcomed a partnership with Padel Powerhouse Limited which it hopes will provide two padel tennis courts at the George Pitcher Memorial Ground, known as the Cherry Orchard.

The company, which is run by two local residents who both went to school in Burnham, approached the council last year with the project. Since then the council and the company have been working together to identify the best site and to agree a deal that will benefit everyone, and especially the residents of Burnham and surrounding areas. Councillors have also visited nearby padel courts to see for themselves and to ensure that they will fit in well with the area.

Padel tennis is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, combining elements of tennis and squash, and has gained popularity for its social nature and suitability for all ages and abilities.

Chair of the Council, Cllr Marie Hammon, said:

“Whilst this project is of course still subject to planning permission, and to signing a legal agreement, we are very excited to be working with Padel Powerhouse and feel that it will be a great thing for the area. This project wouldn’t take away any of the facilities already at the Cherry Orchard, and would add to the great leisure opportunities already there which include football pitches, a dance studio, and a nature park”.

Cllr Hammon added “As a keen tennis player myself, I’m keen to give the new game a try!”

Director of Padel Powerhouse Limited Amardeep Sahota, said:

“I am thrilled about this project because I love playing padel, and I’m excited to collaborate with the council to bring padel courts to the heart of Burnham! This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity to enhance local recreational facilities, promote physical activity, and strengthen community spirit. We seek support from stakeholders, residents, and authorities to bring this vision to life for the benefit of both current and future generations.”
